From www.nikon.ca/digital/products/cameras/coolpix_5000/

Nikon Canada Inc. is pleased to announce the introduction of the COOLPIX 5000 Digital Camera.

A compact, lightweight 5-megapixel digital still camera, the COOLPIX 5000 was developed as the 'flagship' model of the COOLPIX lineup. It is the top-of-the-line model in the Nikon COOLPIX series, which features superior image quality and ease-of-use.

"The Coolpix 5000 launches Nikon into a new realm of digital photography", states Mary Mulder, National Sales Manager. "This highly portable camera is a powerhouse of functionality delivering remarkable image quality."

Nikon's newly developed 3x Zoom-Nikkor lens, with its 7.1-21.4mm (equivalent to 28-85mm in 35mm [135] camera format) focal range, delivers exceptional optical performance with three aspherical lens elements. Together with the 5.0 effective megapixels, images of remarkable color, contrast and clarity are ensured.

The Coolpix 5000's compact and lightweight body is made of magnesium alloy, which offers unparalleled portability and an ergonomic, easy-grip design for simple operation.

This camera offers 3 custom settings for user shooting preference, full automatic program mode for a carefree way to take great pictures or full manual override for complete flexibility. 'Film camera' features, such as 5-area multi autofocus and various exposure metering settings are some of the options that will certainly satisfy the conventional film camera users. Versatile exposure and image controls such as the new Clear Image Mode, Noise Reduction Mode, Saturation Control and White Balance Bracketing contribute to the exceptional quality of Nikon digital images. Multiple capture modes can be selected, including Quick Time™ movies with audio. It also has a built-in speaker making an instant confirmation playback of movies possible. The new Vari-angle LCD monitor gives total convenience in every shooting position. The camera also has dedicated hot shoe to connect to an accessory external TTL Speedlight.

The camera's core users will extend from advanced amateurs, digital enthusiasts, to semi-professional photographers who prefer the best compact digital still camera out in the current market, but cannot compromise on digital image quality. The Coolpix 5000 is also applicable for those people who enjoy the features and flexibility of SLR cameras including use of accessories to broaden shooting potential.
