Fight Against Hoaxes

What is a Hoax?
If you've received messages that warn you of an
unlikely-sounding new virus, offer you a free mobile phone, or ask you to update
your bank account details, you have been the victim of a hoax. If the message
encourages you to pass it on to all your friends, or everybody you know, you are
likely looking at a hoax or a spam message. Hoax emails can interrupt work,
overload mail systems, or even trick you into giving personal credentials and
passwords to criminals.

Urban Legends and Folklore does deal with
more than hoaxes. "What exactly are urban legends?" "Urban legends are popular stories alleged to be
true and transmitted from person to person by oral or written communication (e.g., fax or email). Said stories typically comprise
outlandish, humiliating, humorous, terrifying, or supernatural events--events which, in the telling, always happened to someone
else."
